Frequently asked questions about the Prairie Inn Harriers

What do I do after I join?

First, you'll be added to our email list distribution list, so you'll always be up-to-date on club activities. There are many levels at which you can participate in the club. There's no obligation to attend club events, but the Harriers are a very active presence in the running community (holding key organizer, board, committee and volunteer positions in many other local races such the Victoria Marathon, TC10K, Goddess Run, VICCA, ABIN, Douglas Mile) so there's always something to do to contribute.  We host 8+ races annually where you can participate or volunteer.

How many PIH members are there?

PIH averages over 300 paid members each year. See the current membership list for names.

Can I just come along, or do I have to join?

There is no need to join at first. Just come along to our club runs or to a meeting or a race or a social event and see if you enjoy it. You can decide later if you want to join.

Will everyone be faster than me? Should I wait until I'm faster?

No, we have runners of all abilities so there will be someone who runs at around your speed, whether you run 30 minutes for 10K or over 60. We also have members who don't run at all; they walk for fitness.  A good way to become a better runner is to join a running club.

I am visiting Victoria for a few days or a few weeks. Can I run with you? Will it cost anything?

You are welcome to come along to any of our club runs and you don't need to pay anything! Contact us for more information.

Where are you?

We are based in Victoria. Our runs take place in various location in the Greater Victoria area. Some of our favourite running routes are Thetis Lake, Beaver Lake, Cedar Hill Golf Course and the Galloping Goose Trail. Check out the club runs page for up-to-date schedules and information.

How far do you run? How fast?

Our Saturday runs at Thetis Lake Park are about an hour. Cedar Hill Golf Course is about 20 minutes per lap, and you can run as many laps as you like.  Beaver Lake has a 10K trail. We typically have one group that runs 7:00 - 8:00 per mile and one that runs 9:00 - 10:00 per mile.

What sort of people are members?

We have members of all ages from all walks of life.

What are the benefits of joining?

Club members can receive a 10% discount on purchases from local running stores, discounts on race entry fees, subsidized club uniforms, travel assistance and, most importantly, the chance to participate in some of the Harriers activities in the running community: running in races, running on relay teams, organizing races, supporting races with volunteers and equipment, organizing and conducting running clinics, and having a good time at social events.
