Sandy Auburn
Current Saudi Arabia resident Sandy Auburn, Hellion historian and Harrier sparkplug, ran the Run for the Cure 5K on the weekend. It was her longest continuous run in longer than she could remember! Well done. Unfortunately she's heading back overseas soon. We wish her well.

A solid 8 days for the mighty Dr. Wood Box: Alex won the inaugural Comox Valley Country Roads Marathon, then finished 2nd overall at the Land's End Half Marathon.

Munaza and Dena ran their first ever half marathons at the tough Land's End Half Marathon. Munaza squeaked under 2:00 with a 1:59:49.

Ken and Wendy were the top Harriers in the 3rd annual Harriers Songhees 5k. Wendy was first overall and won the masters' race for the third year in a row!

Brian Travelbea and Laura Pearson
Brian and Laura (along with race winner Alex Coffin) represented the club in the first annual Comox Valley Country Roads Marathon, Brian in the full marathon, Laura in the half. Despite a year devoted more to home renovations than running, both did very well!

Bill and Rintje wore Harrier colours well in the Sri Chinmoy Duathlon on Sunday. Bill was 2nd M50 in 2:23:35 and Rintje was 3rd M60 in 2:50:21.

Rob Grant and Moe "The Eagle" Beaulieu
Rob and Moe ran Washington's very rough and tumble White River 50-miler on the weekend. Both had tough days, but persevered to run 9:21:48 (Rob) and 12:13:56 (Moe). Rob finished 2nd in the M50 division but won the first-placed award as the top M50 was also first amongst all masters - and the organizers would only give him one award!

Almost everyone in the DePol family ran and ran well in the Do it for Dad 8K at Beaver Lake. Chad also won the Nelson 1/2 Marathon the next weekend by over 6 minutes in 1:16.

Ken ran the Vancouver and Kelowna Marathons only two weeks apart, in 3:44 and 3:29. Later in June, he ran 3:32 to win his age group in the Edge to Edge Marathon.

The stars of the 2000 Thrifty Foods Island Race Series. Ulla and Paddy won the overall series titles, Ulla for the third year in a row, Paddy for the fourth! And Maurice set five national records for his age group at four different distances.

Carlos Castillo
Carlos ran his first ultramarathon on the weekend - and became Canadian 50-mile Champion! Carlos won the 50-mile race at the Frontrunners National Ultramarathon Championships with a time of 7:41:26.

Maurice directed another tremendously successful Harriers 8K road race in the year 2000. Days earlier he celebrated his 70th birthday, then just missed setting a course and Canadian 8K record in his own race! This was the last Harriers 8K under Maurice's expert direction. Fortunately, he has agreed to assist the new organizing committee!

Ken's having a great Thrifty Foods Island Race Series and punctuated his season with a super run of 34:27 at the Sun Run in Vancouver. That's a PR for Ken. If it was a series race he would have scored 800 points exactly.

Ulla was the top Vancouver Island finisher amongst women with a 36:45 at the gigantic Vancouver Sun Run 10K, 2nd overall amongst masters.

Jim Finlayson
Jim ran a solid 30:03 to place 6th overall in the Sun Run, 2nd Vancouver Islander behind Olympic marathoner Bruce Deacon (29:49). Bruce and Jim are the top seeds in the Victoria Times-Colonist Garden City 10K on April 30.

Sylvan squeaked under 35 minutes for 10K for the 2nd time with a 34:55 at the Alberni 10K and cracked the top-10 in a Thrifty Foods Island Series race for the first time with 8th overall.

Karen was the top Harrier woman overall in the Alberni 10K, winning Bob's Bonus Buds for the first time. She won her age group and ran a PR of 40:03. Look out at the Garden City when she tries to go under 40 for the first time.

Flawless Lawless ran the race of her life at the UVic 5K, a 5K PR by 28 seconds, 2nd in her age group out of 61, and she scored over 700 points in the series for the first time with a mighty 701.

Steve won his fourth consecutive cross country race since joining the Harriers in November! First overall at the 33rd annual Basil Parker Cross Country.

Paddy won the Comox Half Marathon with a new outright course record of 1:08:32. Then he treated his fellow riders on the Harriers charter bus to some relaxing post-race fiddle playing. What a multi-talented guy!

Maurice narrowly missed the Canadian M70 half marathon record, but set a new course record by 11 minutes. Great consistency, too, with his 655 points barely off his season's best of 659 at Cedar.

At the 200 yard 11th hole at Victoria Golf Club, Charlie has just scored his first ever hole-in-one! He's won his age group in the first three races of the Thrifty Foods Island Race Series, but I'm sure that pales against his latest golfing accomplishment.

Rob finished 5th in a stacked field of 229 in the M5054 age group at the Las Vegas Marathon. That makes Rob the fastest M50 marathoner in Canada in 2000.

Susan makes a guest appearance on the Harrier Runner-o-the-Week table along with Nathan Reid. Susan won the Harriers Susan Reid 10K predicted time run and Nathan won the 2K predicted time walk.
